Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teapoon salt
- 6 tablespoons cold buttery spread
- 3/4 cup buttermilk*
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°
- In a bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients.
- Cut in buttery spread until crumbly.
- Stir in buttermilk just until moistened.
- Turn onto a floured surface; knead 6 - 8 times.
- Pat to 1-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
- Place on a greased baking sheet.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes or until lightly browned.
*Make your own buttermilk by combining 1 cup skim or one percent milk and 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice.
