Whole Wheat Biscuits

Ingredients

  1. 1 cup all-purpose flour
  2. 1 cup whole wheat flour
  3. 3 tablespoons sugar
  4. 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  5. 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  6. 3/4 teapoon salt
  7. 6 tablespoons cold buttery spread
  8. 3/4 cup buttermilk*

Directions

Preheat oven to 375°
 
  1. In a bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients.
  2. Cut in buttery spread until crumbly.
  3. Stir in buttermilk just until moistened.
  4. Turn onto a floured surface; knead 6 - 8 times.
  5. Pat to 1-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
  6. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until lightly browned.
*Make your own buttermilk by combining 1 cup skim or one percent milk and 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice.

Double the recipe and make extras you can freeze and serve later.
