Ingredients
- 6 firm pears
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 tablespoon buttery spread, melted
- 1 teaspoon orange peel, grated
- 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons orange juice
Directions
- Peel and core pears from the bottom leaving stems attached.
- Place pears upright in a 3 1/2 - 5-quart slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, honey, buttery spread, orange peel and ginger. Mix well and pour over pears.
- Cover and cook on high for 2-2 1/2 hours or until tender.
- Remove pears from cooker and place upright in a serving dish.
- Prepare sauce in a small bowl by mixing together cornstarch and orange juice. Stir sauce into slow cooker. Cover and cook on high setting about 10 minutes or until sauce thickens. Spoon sauce over pears.
May use 1/4 cup brown sugar substitute to reduce calories and carbohydrates. Serve as a side dish or as a dessert.
