Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons grated orange peel
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup cold, unsalted butter
- 1/3 cup skim or one percent milk
- 2 tablespoons egg mix combined with 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup chopped orange
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°
- Combine first 6 ingredients in a bowl.
- Cut in butter.
- Whisk milk and egg mixture in a separate bowl. Combine with dry ingredients.
- Stir in oranges, just until moistened.
- Turn onto a floured surface. Knead 10 times. Pat into a 6-inch circle. Sprinkle with additional sugar.
- Cut into 8 wedges. Separate and place on a greased baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve with Orange Butter, which is made with 1/2 peeled, chopped orange mixed with 2 tablespoons buttery spread.
