  1. ripe avocados, halved and pitted
  2. 1 teaspoon lemon juice (may substitute lime juice)
  3. large ripe tomato, cored and finely diced
  4. small onion, finely chopped
  5. large garlic clove, crushed, peeled and minced
  6. fresh jalapeno, minced
  7. black pepper to taste


  1. Place the avocado flesh in a bowl and mash with a fork.
  2. Add lime or lemon juice, tomato, onion, garlic and jalapeno pepper; mix well.
  3. Cover and chill until ready to serve.
You can substitute a 4-oz can chopped green chilies for the jalapeno if you don't want it as hot.
